Educational Initiatives Aim Description
ASU College of Nursing and Health Innovations, Mayo campus program To increase enrollment capacity for nursing students statewide
  • 20 students annually
  • 16 months BNS program based at Mayo Clinic Hospital
  • Didactic and clinical training utilizes ASU College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovations curriculum
  • Faculty composed of MS-level RNs from the Mayo Clinic
Barrett Honors College Pre-Medical Scholar Program To foster humanitarian instincts and educate premedical students in the breadth and diversity available through the practice of medicine
  • Open to BHC sophomores and juniors
  • Shadowing Mayo Clinic in AZ physicians, lectures, hands on labs, physician mentors, assistance with medical school applications and community involvement
  • 2 week intensive summer program at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, Rochester
Dual Degree MD Programs To provide Mayo Clinic School of Medicine medical students with complementary competencies
  • Open to current Mayo Clinic School of Medicine students in good standing
  • MD/JD – Began in Fall 2005
  • MD/MBA – Scheduled for Fall 2010
  • MD/MS Biomedical Informatics – Scheduled for Fall 2010
  • MD/MS Biomedical Engineering – Scheduled for Fall 2010
  • MD/MS Mass Communication – Scheduled for Fall 2010
Fine Arts Collaborations To promote community and healing through the arts

Nursing educational pilot: An educational program to improve nurses’ ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and caregivers about end-of-life issues

Mayo Medical Scholars in Residence To provide mentoring opportunities to ASU pre-med/pre-law students; reduce expenses for MCSM students
  • Embeds Mayo Clinic School of Medicine dual degrees students in Barrett Honors College and Taylor Place residence halls
  • Reduce rent/fees in exchange for 3 hrs of service per week
